Hey folks, as you are already aware, the idea is that Polygloss becomes a worker owned business. Today I did a lot of research on business models, and did some discoveries
- Businesses are usually divided in three categories: Traditional, Non-Profit, and Co-operative. (detalis in table below)
- Worker owned businesses are into cooperatives, and while they dont all work the same way, they tend to share some models of governance like 1 member has 1 vote regardless of number of shares they have
- There are different types of cooperatives that are not worker owned. Types of cooperatives members are normally consumers and producers. The case of workers is rarer, so finding info on how to do things is a bit tough
- I couldn’t find any information on worker owned cooperatives that span different countries yet
- Cooperatives dont necessarily use a cooperative legal entity. Some of them use a more regular business incorporation and build a cooperative organization model on the top
- Not all cooperatives are an incorporated entity
- There are federations of cooperatives that can help you set-up
- It looks like there is not a standard way of setting the titles of members, so I will create a separate post later with some info and some options for us to choose
